YGGDRASIL // ARCHIVE
An interactive Norse mythology knowledge archive, connecting gods, realms, creatures, and stories through a source-grounded knowledge graph.

Concept
Exploring Norse mythology through an interactive knowledge graph
YGGDRASIL // ARCHIVE is a personal project that brings Norse mythology into an interactive, explorable digital archive.
Instead of presenting mythology as isolated articles, the project connects gods, creatures, realms, artifacts, and events through a visual knowledge graph.
The goal is to make the complex relationships and stories of Norse mythology easier to explore while remaining grounded in historical literary sources.
What I built
The archive currently includes 84 canonical entities and 189 source-backed relationships, with information drawn from sources including the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda.
Key features include:
- Interactive knowledge graph — Explore connections between mythological figures, places, objects, and events.
- Network & Cosmology views — Switch between relationship-focused exploration and a source-informed representation of the Norse cosmos.
- Entity dossiers — Read detailed information about individual figures, with relationships and references to their literary sources.
- Story Mode — Explore connected mythological narratives through guided experiences.
- Search & filtering — Find entities and navigate the archive more easily.
Technical approach
Built with React and TypeScript, using React Flow and D3 for interactive graph visualization.
The project emphasizes structured data, traceable source references, responsive interaction, and accessible navigation.
Automated validation and deployment are handled through GitHub Actions, with the static frontend hosted behind Caddy and Cloudflare.
Why I built it
YGGDRASIL // ARCHIVE combines an interest in Norse mythology with an opportunity to experiment with interactive data visualization, knowledge modeling, and modern frontend engineering.
It's an evolving project, with room for additional stories, entities, and ways to explore the mythology.
